Music Mashup

Last week our superstar graduate Jayson Whitmore visited us. During his presentation about branding he introduced us to Thru-You, the site of a unique musician/producer Kutiman. In this site, Kutiman takes videos of people in YouTube that are playing an instrument or singing, and piece them together to create songs. You can see how he does it here.

Yet again another channel for music creation that didn't exist before the Internet and web 2.0. It is so exciting to think about the possibilities of the music industry in the future. I would just hope that the industry itself would catch up.

Here is two of my favorite videos from the artist.

What it is all about!

The best part of my job is learning about the success of our graduates once they conclude their education with us. Sometimes that starts right at graduation. You can tell that they are ready to change the world. So inspiring!

Last month I was lucky to be there when one of the graduates from our degree in Education Media Design & Technology delivered a memorable speech. The video is about 7 min long, so if you don't have time, forward to minute 5:40 when he starts performing a blues!

Social Networks make you more efficient at work

About a couple of years ago I was drown in email. I wrote about it here (warning: it's in Spanish). Lately? no so much!, especially on my personal email.

I started to ask myself why, it's not that I am less busy. Actually, I am more busy than ever. Being a content guy, I decided to analyze the content that I'm receiving, and, aha moment! It turned out that this whole thing about the formality of the content, also applies to email. It seems that the content of the email I get these days is more for "formal" than that of a couple of years ago.

The reason for that is because many conversations that took place over email are no longer taking place over email. Email used to be that place where I got my news, where I caught up with my friends and family, where I worked and where I got confirmation from purchases among other things. Some of these conversations have moved *away* from email.

I get my news these days via RSS and more and more via Twitter. Friends and family are practically off my email and in Facebook, Flickr and other social networks. Even work email conversations have migrated to Instant Message and message boards in Basecamp.

So now I'm no longer a slave of email and I feel more connected but more efficient than ever. I can actually say that social networks and web 2.0 in general have made me more efficient at work. Isn't that wild?

Ning for Dummies

Today I picked up my copy of "Ning for Dummies" written by my great friend Manny Hernandez. I am so proud, I hope he signs it next time I see him!
